Announcement - Seeking Webmaster

The California Council for the Social Studies is seeking a qualified webmaster to manage the www.ccss.org website.  The website can serve a variety of purposes: to provide information to members and to non-member social studies educators about the organization, its goals and its programming, and useful resources to advance quality history-social science education; to support CCSS's leadership in the conduct of its responsibilities; to advance networking among CCSS members and between its members and leaders; and to promote the organization's efforts in advocacy for the field. We seek candidates committed to the organization's mission with the capacity to manage and develop the website to more effectively serve those purposes.

Primary Duties/Areas of Expectations/Responsibilities

  • Populate home page and conference page with rotating "highlights" of upcoming conference (including presenters, speakers, sponsors and other critical information) provided by Conference Committee
  • Monitor website for efficiencies in user interface, for clean/simple look and feel, and for needed updates in content (dates, names, profiles, etc.)
  • Update local council and committee information on a regular basis, with information provided by Executive Director, Secretary and/or Executive Committee/Board members, as appropriate
  • Work with ED and Secretary to create and monitor group calendar/communication system to efficiently gather and update content from stakeholders
  • Review statistics and analytics; disseminate to Executive Committee

Qualifications: Skills/Background/Experience

  • Proficiency with or demonstrated ability to learn Wild Apricot website interface/platform
  • Debugging skills to address issues that arise with the performance of the website
  • Troubleshooting skills to eliminate problems with content and links 
  • Communication skills to establish and relate priorities and accomplishments 
  • HTML proficiency preferred but NOT required

Reporting Relationships
  • Primary reporting to Executive Director, including regular (weekly or bi-weekly) monitoring of workload and accomplishment of priorities
  • Work with Executive Director, Secretary and Conference Chair on conference promotion, website content, and communication with Executive Committee and CCSS members
  • Work with chair of Social Media Special Committee to align website content with Social Media activities

Compensation/Work Calendar-Term
  • $4000 total compensation, through independent contract
  • Term of work: through June 30, 2018
