BIO

The 2017-2018 school year marks my 22nd year of teaching, mostly at the 5th grade level. At one point or another, I have taught all grades K-8 with the exception of Kinder and Second. In addition, I spent last year as an Instructor with the LACOE District Intern Program while teaching 5th grade full time.  I love to blend Social Studies and Lang. Arts when I plan lessons for my 5th graders.  Most of my summers are spent attending teacher institutes involving historical sites.  Traveling through history is a favorite escape.

STATEMENT

Becoming a good citizen takes practice;  Civic education and engagement must be taught at all levels of K-12 education.  We need to foster civic competency in our students from elementary to high school.  Our time is being marginalized time in the classroom and in later grades the focus becomes assessments... which make the teacher aim on teaching to the test.   We must be resilient in the campaign for civic advocacy and promote engaged and informed citizenry.
