Brinkley Abercrombie

Born and raised in Fresno, CA, I developed my passion for history both in school (I was very excited to be on the "textbook selection group" in 5th grade) and at home (thank you Indiana Jones). I attended the University of San Diego, where I majored in History, studied for a semester at University College Cork in Ireland, and achieved my teaching credential. I am currently in my 12th year of teaching History at Tioga Middle School in Fresno, CA. I am also the president of the San Joaquin Valley Council for the Social Studies and the CCSS regional director for Region 7.

This is a pivotal time for History/Social Studies education. Our role as history/social studies educators is shifting from disseminating information to cultivating historical thinkers. Students have access to a massive amount of information at their fingertips and history educators are the front line in teaching students how to critically evaluate, judge, and reflect on not only historical events but also rapidly changing current events. As the regional director for Region 7 on the CCSS board, I have seen the work the council does to advocate for history/social studies educators and I would be honored to continue this work as the Central Valley Area Vice President.
